What’s happening in Miami on Super Bowl Sunday

Miami is hosting Super Bowl 2020 – one of the world's biggest sports events.Tickets cost an arm and a leg, but it’s no bad idea to spend time in a city that has plenty more on offer besides the game itself.

The Super Bowl is the climax of the American football season. Two teams meet to decide who will be crowned champions in a single game. This year is Super Bowl LIV which is being played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. At the end of the game, either the Kansas City Chiefs or the San Francisco 49ers will be crowned Super Bowl champions. No matter which team claims the title, it will be the first time in many years for both teams. The 49ers won their last of five titles in 1995 while the Kansas City Chiefs won their only Super Bowl to date way, way back in 1970, 50 years ago.

In addition to the game and the entertainment at the Hard Rock Stadium, there will be parties, big screens, carnivals and plenty of other events to see in Miami over the period. The city will be swarming with football fans the whole week. And even though it's far from easy to get hold of tickets, there are still plenty of other reasons to go to Miami.

Here are five things to do in Miami during – or in association with – Super Bowl LIV:

Tailgate party at Miami International Airport

Tailgating, where you follow the game and socialize outside the stadium where the actual game is being played, is a popular pastime in the US. This will naturally also be the case outside the Hard Rock Stadium. But don’t worry if you've got a plane to catch, a departure gate at Miami International Airport is hosting a tailgate party, according to CNBC.
